This is the first cathedral included on the Renaissance style that was built in Spain. The most important aim was to show the world the importance of the city and important moments they were living. It does not only stand out for its history and grandeur , but also for the architecture and the value assumed in the city.
Christians called it "new" because it was the first they built at that time, in the sixteenth century, only in order to cover the river in an area where there were already several bridges. But not enough for their opinion! Today, it is the from which to explore the Alhambra by the Cuesta de Gomérez, the Albaicin through the narrow streets around the Chancillería, and the Carrera del Darro.
